On my creativity and spirituality path, I have come to the conclusion that they are one and the same. As I delve more into my creativity, what I experience is very similar to spirituality. I have given it a lot of thought and I have come up with a theory.
The purpose of Source or God is to create. So when we tap into our creative source we are most like Source. And there is an immense amount of pleasure that arises from being creative.
Ask any hobbyist. Anyone that gardens or sews or tinkers in the garage or makes art will tell you that something happens to them when they get immersed in their act of creativity. Time and space seems to stop and they are transported to this other place filled with peace and happiness even joy.
Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi talks about the state of flow in this video.
When we access our creativity we are most like the Creator. That explains why creativity and spirituality are so closely connected. So pay attention next time you are in the ‘flow’ (although you probably won’t notice it until you are out of the flow) and see if you don’t agree with me.
The question is, how do you get into the flow. Let me know in the comments.

Debbie – Love this statement from you:
“The purpose of Source or God is to create. So when we tap into our creative source we are most like Source. And there is an immense amount of pleasure that arises from being creative.”
I can’t help but make the correlation between the word Creativity and Creator – (word create) they are both using their imagaination to produce something amazing for our universe…MIRACLES Happen! Like the video says – ECSTASY!
For me living in the flow begins with my living in the moment – the forever of right now! I stay close with my GOD, my SOURCE and listen to my intuition (my gut) as life flows in me and through me……I must be flowing according to one of his charts….
In love, light and bliss,
Nancy

HI Nancy,
You are definitely a role model for all of us moving in that same direction. “Living in the moment – the forever of right now.” You are such a wonderful supportive friend and you are doing great things. Thanks for helping me stay on my path and listen to my intuition.
One Love,
Debbie
That’s a lovely piece of art!
I love to meditate to get into the flow. After meditation and thought, I am ready to let my creativeness run wild. I use this tactic most when I paint prior to starting a new piece.
Thank you for your insightful post.

Hi John,
I am amazed at the art that results from meditation. It’s almost like the art paints me instead of me painting the art. Do you find that experience?

Hi Debbie, I definitely agree with your theory! continue the good creating, I love it!

I have always remembered this man and his book from years ago because I heard someone pronounce his name like;
Chicks Make Me So High
I don’t know how exact that is though. I totally agree with your definition and comparison of source. It is when our heads are down and our hands are busy that we connect. Keep up the amazing work. I think I have some bad blogs on my reader and I was refreshed when I came across yours.

And I love the “Chicks Make Me So High!” When life gets especially challenging, it’s easy to forget that one, small, creative act can shift your energy very quickly. And thank you for the lovely compliment.

Hi Debbie, I loved your post. Thanks for introducing this man to us! I loved his video and could truly relate to what he is talking about…especially when he mentionned being so intensely into creating that we seem to forget everything around us… Awesome!

Interesting video and article, thanks, I love your blog
Hi Debbie:
Browsing around Google+ tonight and checked out my spirituality theme I saved. Came across your blog and I see that we’re on the same page. We use many of the same words when blogging:
–Source
–God
–Flow
Glad I discovered your blog tonight. I’ll be back.

Debbie,
As for me, I cannot compare my creativity to our Creator. I believe we all have limitations but God has no limits. However, God promised that we can do all things through Him, if we only believe. So it is up to our faith. Your post is really interesting to me
I, too, agree with Nancy. I live only for today
Thanks you so much for sharing this video to us. I hope to read your other posts. I have red the one about the right and the left brain but I stopped because of my busy schedule. Now I am back again to check your wonderful posts.
Great article about creativity, its more informative than the I expected, I’ve been looking for something like this for a while. I’ll be following along with more posts, looking forward to studding more posts.

Good Morning Debbie:
Thanks for circling me back on G+. Oh, and thanks for complimenting my photography.
Didn’t really comment on this post the first time I came around. So here goes:
I completely agree w/your sentiment that creativity and spirituality are intricately intertwined. Before I started writing my blog, I spent half my life writing short stories and novels. There were times when I’d sit down and start writing at (oh, I don’t know 630, 7pm) and the next thing I knew it was 11 pm. I’d look at my computer screen and there’d b be 15 pages done.
And I’d have NO idea having written all that. Now THAT’S flow.
Something else I’ve discovered is that many creatives also have a spirituality gene that stronger then those who are not creative. It doesn’t work the other way though. Have you found that too?
I’ll be back.

Hi Chris,
You pose an interesting question. I have noticed that creatives tend to be more spiritual and yet spirituals aren’t necessarily creatives. Interesting. You would think it would go both ways.
I’m loving your blog. Thanks for the great posts.

Debbie, I can get into the flow just by giving myself the time and space.
Whether I am working or playing when I allow myself to slow down and just be in the moment it happens.
I just need to learn to slow down more.
I am new here, but I agree with you , debbie.

Follow what your Heart really Desires. The Spirit is already there, it needs to be acted up in the good way.
Most often non creative person doesn’t know what really is fulfillment when you have done something. It would make no sense fore them if we have cross stitch a whole frame of garden or have come up with a chest box we made ourselves, and the immense concentration and the joy within while doing it. I can relate to it since I have tap my creativity since I was in my elementary years.

Debbie,
now this is truly amazing. I have been following your progress and making that attempt to learn more of this “Tapping”.
Your the second person I have become friends with in this amazing healing method. It works and I have started to feel the results.
I use to think it was all in the mind. After following you and other videos. I thought to give it a try. It is amazing the instant results one feels releasing all that energy.
I thank God in meeting you. I look forward in getting more knowledge of this new method in my life. Thank you for all your support.
For me improving my creativity is easier when I have contact with many people. I am doctor so that’s easy. And i completely agree with you – thus we are near to the Creator

What I have discovered is that we are all innately creative, but some part of life has taken away that belief. But it does seem that creative people tend to be spiritual as well. How do you express your creativity?

In creative moments we feel more powerful, I agree that creativity and spirituality are connected. I’d like to be more creative in my life. Creativity is spiritual health
Hi Drogaria,

Our creativity and spirituality so good for all child and all people.
Hi Summerhathway,

I would like to thank you for the great post. According to me creativity and spirituality is more or less the same…if you are spiritually influenced your creativity will have a life.

It is a bit of a mystery how creativity and spirituality are linked. But ask any creative person and they can tell you that the link is obvious to them. You have a good point about having busy hands. I think busy hands takes us out of our heads and into our bodies. And our bodies must be conduits for Spirit.

The quickest way to get “into the flow” for me is music. Driving also helps for some reason. A fast pace but not so fast that I have to concentrate on not crashing. It’s a natural high that is great to be on but depressing when it ends. I also struggle with maintaining it long enough to produce something tangible.
Hi Chuck,
Driving puts me in the ‘flow’ as well. Sometimes I don’t remember actually driving and I kind of wake up further down the road. It’s very calming and peaceful for me.

Hi.. this post is really very nice.. I like this post very much… Thanks for sharing this information with us…
Thanks Debbie,
Reading about others and their thinking on spirituality is a major interest to me and I’m sure many others. Thank you very much for your insight on creativity and the source for which they connect. Realizing this and attempting to meditate in my own life will definitely be done.
Lana
I really love reading your blog. Keep up the good work.
I totally agree with this post. Creativity is the missing link in many people’s lives. The fulfillment you realize when you create or are creative is sometimes hard to explain. But the feeling of being “in the flow” is as good of an explanation as any!
I totally agree. Creativity IS the missing link in most people’s lives. So many people that feel lost or confused could find relief through creativity. And there is nothing like the feeling of being in the ‘flow.’ How do you like to express your creativity?
One Love,
Debbie
