All You Need is Love courtesy of Noel Zia Lee on Flickr
How much love do you have in your life? I don’t mean your general circumstances like
- I love my husband
- I love my job
- I love my kids
- I love my house
How much love do you experience every day. The Beatles sang “All you need is love.” I think the common interpretation is that if you have someone to love, that is all you need.
I’m here to say you need way more love than that. But not on the receiving end. On the giving end. And here’s why.
The more love you put out into the world, the more love comes back to you. And I’m not talking about someone to love. I’m talking about everything you love. Or could love.
Like
- I would love to live in a big house
- with a pool
- and a Lamborghini in the driveway
- on the water
- with a boat
- and a housekeeper
- and work from home
- and a landscaper
Every experience you have every day is either loving, or not. Wearing that cute skirt is love, getting mad in traffic is not. Having a friendly chat at the grocery counter is love, being annoyed that you forgot your ‘green’ bags again, is not. A big bear hug from your kids is love, hollering for them to hurry or you’ll be late is not.
Now I’m not pointing those things out to make you feel bad. I’m guilty of all of the above… and more. What I want to share with you is this.
If you can figure out how to have more loving moments in your day… you will drastically change your life.
I mean drastically. And I’m not saying it’s easy either. The first thing you need to do is become aware of all the times you separate yourself from love. The next step is to discover ways to feel love more often.
- carry pictures of people and things you love
- remember happy family moments
- dance
- develop a hobby you enjoy
- sing
- laugh
- curl up on the couch with a good book
- do something nice for someone
There are a million ways to add more love to your life. I challenge you to do it.

Great article! I also believe in a healthy dose of “self-love”, as in, the more I care and nurture myself, speak my truth, meditate, feed my soul, live my passions, etc., the more all of it comes right back to me from the universe. Thanks again, be well!

You’re right about the self love. You can’t have too much love. I love to show myself love by eating healthy, nutritious food as well.
I heart this post. This afternoon I rocked my sick little boy and sang to him. He rarely lets me do this! I sat and held him while he slept and looked around at the mess in the house and for once I did not feel guilty angry or stressed. None of it mattered. I was full of love for my boy adn for the gift of the love filled moment.
xoxo
Poor Ezra, my 17 year old daughter was like that. As soon as she could walk, she walked away from me and never looked back. I guess I should be proud she’s independent. But you are right about the mess. I recognized that the mess doesn’t matter the first time by beautiful baby girl asked if we could go out and play and I said no because I had to finish the dishes and fold laundry.
Memories are way more important than mess.
Great article, I have to agree loving yourself first can give you drastic change, you will be more patient and happy. Thanks for sharing this wonderful post!

Well thanks, Adam. With the word ‘passion’ in your domain name, I’m sure love is a frequent topic for you!. And I LOVE your sex video. (there’s a sentence you don’t hear every day. tee hee!)
Hi Debbie,
Liked your post a lot. Yes we can have so much more love in our lives with those outside our families. The more love we share with everyone we meet, the more love we will get in return.
It takes a while to make it a habit of being loving to everyone you meet and you can forget and mess up at times, but the more you consciously do it, the better we’ll feel.
Your suggestions are great for ways to create more love in our days. My favorite is to curl up with a good book.
Thanks for this enlightening post!

If there was one thing my mom instilled in us kids growing up, it was to show love. She always hugged us, many times each day, just tell us she loves us.
When you give love away, it comes back many times over again. Not only do you feel great, however, all the people you meet also pick up on your energy.
Thanks for sharing!

Hi Ron,
You just can’t give too much love. I always used to snuggle with my kids when putting them to bed. They are 15 and 17 and I still climb in bed with them. It’s a wonderful ritual because living with a teenager can be challenging. So even if we had a rough day, I still snuggle them and remind them how much I love them.

Beautiful post Debbie,
We truly make a decision on what we will allow into our lives or not. Allowing ourselves to get excited about things even if they are simple is having more and more love grow inside of us and around us. Helping people is one of my favorite thing to do and it helps me feel wonderful when I am able to make a difference in other people’s lives.
Blessings ♥,
Eren

Lovely post, Debbie! Very true indeed. I always tell my kids, you always get back what you put out. So focus on happiness and love. Always be grateful for things that makes you happy and loved and you will experience more of it. Thanks for inspiring me!

That focus on love and happiness is key. I think most of us are actually taught to focus on what’s wrong. Look at the media. Not must good news going on there. I have a friend that always wants to talk about the tragedy in the Gulf. I tell her I choose to focus on the wonderful men and women dedicated to solving the problem. And I mentally send love and light and health to the area.
This is very true. I have started to do some of these things already. My family is going to be the better for it. I am beginning to enjoy life more, too.
That’s great Jessy. Once we shift our life to more loving thoughts than unloving thoughts, our lives seem to take off like a rocket. (in a good way)
Sometimes smiling at a stranger can make your day, the moment you see a spark in their eye that wasn’t there before. I also find music is a great way for me to remember to be more loving. I guess it just makes me happy so I want to share that happiness.
Thanks for a great post. We can all use a “love more” reminder now and then.
Live with passion and purpose,
Vanessa

I love complimenting strangers. It lifts my spirits as much as theirs. And paying the toll for the person behind me.
Deb! Great post!! I absolutely love the video. A little predictable when you saw the girl, but great no less
Thanks for the reminder that we are all in control of what love we have in our lives. Sometimes all it takes is a smile to make someone’s day. It’s one of my favorite things to do. Smile at strangers. Love the reactions.
Thanks again, I love the message.
Hey, by the way, is that a plugin that drops down from the top when you post your comment. Love that too!
.-= Debbie Wood´s last blog ..Ebook Mechanics – How to Create Ebook Content 101 =-.
Hi Debbie, I love smiling all the time. It’s definitely contagious. The drop down plugin is called Apture. It is way cool. It keeps stats for you too. Telling you how many people searched on your site. Check it out!
Thanks so much Debbie. This is a great tool and I will add it to my blogs immediately. I’m responding here instead of replying to you email so others can learn also. When you responded to me, I got an email with your response. Is that part of the plug-in also. I think that’s really cool, because so many times I will ask a question on someone’s blog and won’t get an answer because I forget to follow up and see if they answered me, but yet I don’t normally click the box to keep updated with posts, because when you’re syndicating, that would mean a lot of emails
….
So, my question is, when you replied to me I got an email. What made that possible.
Great blog, by the way!!

Hi Debbie. I was blown away the first time I got a reply through this plug-in called ReplyMe. I don’t like clicking the box to get updated with posts either. Some bloggers get hundreds of comments.
This plug in is so cool. Once you set up the template in the back of Wordpress… every time you reply to a comment, it automatically sends the email with the comment in it. What is your favorite Wordpress plug-in?

Debbie,
Thanks for a wonderful post! I really agree with you! We need to create as much love in our lives as possible. Also it reminds me not to take what we have for granted. Thanks, Darcy Dunkley
Darcy,
I heard someone once say you should look at everything you own, and if you don’t absolutely love it, it’s time for it to move on to someone else’s life. I think that’s a really great way to live.
I loved a man. but I do not love to live with him cause he did not love anything else from him. Now I love living alone and everything. And I love your post. thanks.

Hey Debbie,
Great advise and as you know it’s all about the law of attraction. Put more love out there and you get it back in return. You made the comment “The next step is to discover ways to feel love more often”. I would like to add one to your list. Put yourself in the “NOW” by observing but not being judgemental of all the wonder going on around you. The beautiful trees, the grass, the birds, you get the idea.
Thanks,
Michael
