Meditation Techniques

Meditation techniques are found everywhere. And one isn’t any better than another. If you are unhappy with the techniques you are currently using, discover one that is a better fit.

Meditation has been a practice of mine for about 12 years. And I’ve had various levels of commitment and success with it.

Transcendental Meditation

When I first started meditating I was using the Transcendental Meditation technique. This method of meditation uses a silent mantra assigned my a certified TM teacher. I had a friend who was certified and got my training through her.

It is a wonderful practice and I would recommend it. It is a wonderful practice and I would recommend it. If you don’t have a trainer nearby, you can choose a mantra like ‘ooommmm’ or ‘one’.

Getting in the Gap

I learned this meditation technique from Dr. Wayne Dyer of The Power of Intention. He has a small book called Getting in the Gap. It’s an ancient method using a focus phrase to direct your attention, followed by sound meditation.

Dr. Dyer reminds us that meditation allows us to connect with spirit on a conscious level. And that connection is perfect for setting intention or manifesting.

Holosync Meditation

This is the meditation technique I currently use. It uses binaural beats to help you slip into the meditation mode automatically.

Back in the 7os, researchers discovered that meditating yogis had distinct electrical brain wave patterns. About the same time, a different set of researchers discovered they could affect electrical brainwave patterns with sound.

These researchers found that if they played a different frequency in each ear through headphones, the electrical brainwave pattern would change to match the average between the 2 frequencies.

They call the 2 frequencies binaural beats. Two different beats played in 2 different ears.

Now this method works best if you listen to the beats with earphones. And the beats aren’t discernible. They can be made to sound like ocean waves or music.

The beauty is, you automatically reach both the alpha, delta, and theta states discovered in the meditating yogis.

I like doing the complete breath meditation, as I breath in I exhale and as I breath out I inhale. I breath in through my noise and out my mouth. This takes practice, yet it is awesome when it flows easily. Then, I breath in sunlight, I see it, going down my head slowly to my feet as I let go of tension that has settled in my shoulders or wherever- I breath through the tension. I learned this at a Wonder Women wkd I went on to learn different ways to meditate with http://www.innervisionsworldwide.com and Ilyania Vanzant. I also learned many ways to do Buddhist meditation with music, dance, and visualization in a JHU 3 month class. There are plenty classes out there to explore. Hi Debbie, I had never noticed this page on your blog. Its amazing what we discover after “time” – its really great to know you!

Personally, I simply close my eyes in silence and concentrate on my thinking, saying a short prayer for God to guide my thoughts and maybe “count” and repeating affirmations inside my head with Full Intention of Concentrating On Every Breath and Every Word – NOTHING ELSE MATTERS FOR THAT TIME I’M MEDITATING!

Also, The Lord’s Prayer as well as The Serenity Prayer are good to use for meditation. Once I’ve reached a level of peace and relaxation in “The Now” as Eckhart Tolle puts it, I will be still for awhile allowing whatever Lord Jesus wishes to place in my soul.

After I open my eyes, I am still in “The Now” and so much more stress free and at peace!

I think I may try the HoloSync sometime – sounds pretty cool – Thanks for sharing and God Bless!

Hey Curt, I’ve used the first line of The Lord’s Prayer in something called Japa meditation. I learned if from Dr. Wayne Dyer. He calls it “getting in the gap”. I’ve also used Transcendental Meditation, but my favorite is Holosync.

Even 10 minutes of meditation can bring profound peace.

Hi Debbie,

I have found the Holosync mediation program to be the best for me. I have some beautiful guided meditation cd’s but the problem I have is I can’t quiet my mind and focus for long enough with these. With Holosync you don’t have to focus, which really helps with the long-term benefits of meditation!

I absolutely love Holosync and have been using it for over a year now. I’ve also used TM and did pretty well with it. But when I discovered Holosync, it was a home run for me. And I love the benefits!

Hi Debbie,

I’d love to get more information. I have Dr. Dyer’s CD’s on “Inspiration Your Ultimate Calling” I’m also part of a mastermind group studying Napolean Hill’s “Think and Grow Rich” I have written down an mantra for my self talk. Is meditation just repeating my mantra and how long do I do it? Looking forward to connecting with you more.

Hi Trish,

So funny you asked the question. I’m writing a post next week on beginning meditation. The simplest way to start a meditation practice is to sit quietly and notice your breath. Notice when you breathe in and notice when you breathe out. You can say a mantra if you like. I would recommend starting with 5 minutes. You will have thoughts pop in your head. Just notice them like clouds passing by. Oh, there’s a thought, then go back to focus on your breathing.

When you are comfortable with the 5 minutes, you can expand it to 10 minutes. I think a great target would be 20 minutes, but you can still get a lot of benefit from 5 minutes.

When I started meditating, I really noticed and increase of internal peace.

I use Bin-aural Beats meditation and it works like a charm , making me relaxed in a short time than any other technique.
