Thesis 1.8 Upgrade

by debbie on August 24, 2010

Thesis 1.8 is here! Thesis 1.8 is here! And does it kick @$$! If you aren’t using Thesis, you are missing out on a ton of automatic SEO. And it’s built in!

Thesis Theme for WordPress: Options Galore and a Helpful Support Community

Here are the new features in 1.8. Don’t forget about all the features already built in: rock-solid SEO, outstanding typography, point and click design controls that give you a full range of customization opportunities, free support forums with more than 30,000 members, and a detailed user-guide which can be found here:

User Guide

Is your header SEO optimized?

To maximize the search engine optimization of your header, it should be clickable, CSS-based, and SEO-optimized. 1.8 does that automatically. All you do is upload your header image and bingo! All optimized.

Do you count letters in <title> and <meta> description?

Search engines  only display a certain number of characters. Thesis 1.8 takes care of the counting for you. No more truncated descriptions.

Want more fonts?

WordPress is limited with it’s ‘web-safe’ fonts. But now you have access to the Google font directory. 28 new fonts that display correctly no matter what browser your visitors use.

Nav menu super-tweak

WordPress 3.0 has an awesome nav menu builder. Now Thesis 1.8 fully integrates with that so you can really tweak your nav menus.

Category/Tag/Taxonomy Page Options

Ok, could someone explain this to me?  This is a quote from their site. And I don’t really understand it. But they seem pretty excited about it. Chris Pearson said it’s his most favorite upgrade.

“You can add unique headlines and unique content to every category, tag, or taxonomy page on your site! This has huge implications for SEO, and even better, it will allow you to create pages that are more useful for your users.”

You do have a favicon right?

Auto-favicon uploader. Upload an image… Thesis does the rest.

For you developers out there

Custom loop API. Again, out of my league, but the developers like it.

So do your search engine rankings a favor and upgrade to Thesis 1.8. Your analytics will thank you.

Thanks for sharing this Debbie. I had no idea that a Theme could have that kind of capability. I’ll certainly give it a go.

Michael,

Thesis really can’t be beat if you want your blog to be at it’s best SEO-wise. And the developers keep improving it with free upgrades. There is a bit of a learning curve getting it up and running. But their tutorials and support forum are fantastic.

One Love,
Debbie
