Creativity and Healing
I read an interesting blog post titled “The 8 Steps to Heal with Art” at artandhealingblog.com. The author is Dr. Michael Samuels and he is the co-founder of Art As A Healing Force which helps put visual artists, poets, storytellers, musicians, and dancers, into hospital Arts In Medicine programs with children and adults with cancer.
After years of research and practical application of using art as healing, he has broken down the process that all patients go through when healing themselves through art. And I immediately saw the connection between art and healing and art and manifesting.
Creativity and Manifesting
Both processes are about transformation. When you intend to manifest something, you are creating something new, or different in your life. The same process applies to healing. You intend to live from a healed perspective.
I’ve used his definition of the healing steps added the manifestation process to each one.
Pain and Darkness – Unconscious
Dr. Samuels found that most patients experience pain. Physical, psychological or the pain of a newly diagnosed illness.
When manifesting, the pain is our limiting beliefs; our deep hidden fears or emotions that hold us back from the life of our dreams.
I’m not good enough
I’m not lovable
I’m not worthy
I’m not smart enough
Many of these beliefs can be stuck in our subconscious. We are unaware of them unless our outer manifestation makes it obvious
Why don’t I have enough money; could be a belief that money is evil.
Why does everyone I love, leave me; could be a fear of abandonment?
Why doesn’t anyone listen to me; could be a fear of having nothing worthy to say
So our pain and darkness stems from our limiting beliefs.
Going elsewhere – Knowing What You Don’t Want
With the healing process, there becomes a desire for a different way of feeling. Like hope. And with manifesting, the going elsewhere is realizing that life can be different. Or a desire for life to be different. It’s knowing what you don’t want and a step or a thought in the direction of what you do want.
The Turning Point – Creating Your Intention
This is where the creative process comes in. In healing, patients get involved with creating something. Journaling, gardening, cooking interesting recipes, painting or dancing.
With manifesting, this is where we create our intention and create some art to allow our authentic, internal images to communicate with ourselves and the Divine. It’s like a prayer.
I intend to get a better job.
I intend to find my soul mate.
I intend to get along with my neighbor.
Slipping Through the Veil – Meditation
For patients, this is where they get a glimpse of their true selves. It’s about really knowing yourself, and the art communicates with them. The art is like a doorway to their authentic nature.
Meditation can be a wonderful tool for manifesting. It allows us, for a moment to connect with our true selves.
Embodiment of the Spirit – Feel the Feeling
When patients arrive at this stage, there is a feeling of connection with Spirit
When manifesting, the art helps us feel the feeling. The feeling of what we are trying to create. Whenever we manifest something we want, we must feel the feeling of already having it.
The art gives us a glimpse of the beauty of who we are. The one that already has all that she needs.
Knowing the Truth and Trusting the Process – Allowing
At this step, the patient begins to see their true path and discovers what needs to be done to heal.
For everyone that uses art to communicate with ourselves and Spirit, this is where the art and you merge and you integrate the messages it has for you. In the manifesting process, this has to do with allowing. Allowing what you want to come to you without needing it.
Healing Energy and Compassion – Gratitude
Creativity for the patient allows them to feel compassion for themselves and others.
At this stage of manifesting, duality arises as you see the part of you that doesn’t serve you. But you love and appreciate that part of you and you are grateful for all that you are.
Transcendence – Manifestation
At this stage, lives are transformed. People are connected, to themselves and their community. They feel completely different than before the healing or manifestation. Almost reborn. And they want to share it, with anyone that will listen. “Look how I’ve healed myself. Let me help you heal yourself.”
“Look what I’ve created in my life. Let me help you create the life of your dreams.”
These steps were so clear in their explanation of how creativity and art can be used for manifesting. Have you used art or creativity for manifesting? Leave me a comment below.

I believe art can be a good medium to be used to start healing a person because it gives the person a medium to express what he thinks or feels on a different channel.
Absolutely Drew. Being able to express yourself allows you to discover new things about you. And we’re pretty smart. I think art helps us listen to our wisdom.
Very deep philosophies ideas. It was very informative!

Amazing topic, and well covered! It’s definitely a poorly worded cliche…”it’s better to give than receive”, I agree that there are so many people out there that don’t even believe their worthy of abundance and great amounts of money.
Every person is artistic. This I think is the reason why everybody can appreciate a good piece of art. It’s built in us ever since. And art is a result of a very powerful energy. And through that energy, we can get our desires come into form.
